Every now and then you tell yourself you need to start showing up in your own life and decide it’s time to get healthy, do a better at job at work, practice patience, finally start saving, get more organized, be a better friend and drop those bad habits.

After 10 seconds of thinking about all this change you’re like “nope, it’s too hard”. Even if you do start, it just seems to gets more challenging.

Every day it’s the same old story with you — “Today’s the day”and if you didn’t take the day, then you convince yourself that tomorrow is the day.

Let me tell you what the problem is — there’s a gap between where you are and where you want to be and in that space, is a lot of chopping and changing of the mind, you’re unhappy where you are but scared to make a change to improve your situation. You don’t know where to start so you don’t even try.

You can fix this by journaling!

An exceptional tool that brings about growth, clarity, understanding and increased well-being.

Here’s why you should give it a shot!

Journaling helps in achieving goals — Mornings are a very powerful time of the day and by writing down long and short term goals, visions and to do lists. It makes its mark into your subconscious mind and you will notice it become a reality. This way you are being held accountable to yourself.

Journaling brings presence and awareness — If you take a closer look around everyone, including you are connected and plugged in, in some way. It’s become almost impossible to disconnect. Making time to journal everyday will bring about balance. Ticking off your to do list from the morning is a big time stress reliever! Use your journaling time to reflect on your day. It’s the perfect tool to bring the day to a close and send you into a mentally and physically relaxed mode.

Journaling tracks progress — The first time I tried journaling, I noticed where the gaps were. It showed me how and why I wasn’t where I want to be. My habits, routines, time-management and discipline were not in order. It all became clear what I needed to remove and improve. The process of journaling has clearly mapped the route I need to take to get me from here to there.

Journaling to heal — This has been by far the most helpful tool for my emotional health and I am certain it will be just as helpful for you. Emotions are a big part of life so it’s very important to understand yours. When you are triggered, it will be a lot more helpful and healing to open your journal and let it out there instead of projecting it onto others. Writing it out is a release that can quickly calm you down and help you understand the why’s and hows of those emotions.

Journaling to show gratitude — You’ve heard this before. Writing down the things you’re grateful for can really change your world. It makes the ordinary, everyday things seem extraordinary and thats the point. It is a powerful and life changing habit that will make your world bigger than is it simply because you’re focusing on what you have and what you are instead of what you don’t have and what you’re not.

It is a powerful habit that if done correctly, will give you leverage to show up as the best version of yourself. The thing is, many people have tried journaling but dropped it before it ever had a chance to prove how powerful it is.

This is something I recommend to all my clients because it brings about self-awareness, self-reflection and valuable knowledge about oneself that goes a long way in the journey of self-development. Give it a try!

As an avid reader and writer, it’s no surprise that communications became my career and line of work. There is never one thing in particular that defines who I am, except the fact that I am passionate about everything I do. That made me the odd one out most of my life. It made realize how important it is to listen to my heart.
