"The Mi'raj is trying to give you an aspect and a view that there are things happening behind this world. Don't refrain yourself to the walls. Think outside the box. Al Isra and Miraj tells you that there are worlds out there." - Shaykh Dr Muhammad bin Yahya al Ninowy.

There is more to the universe than what meets the eyes.

This has been the message of divine revelation since the beginning of time. Now after millennia we see a physical body of knowledge like science also move into the realm of unseen and unobserved phenomena. Most of physics and cosmology today deals with unobserved entities.

The message of Mi'raj is clearly directed to the bipolar modern mind that readily accepts scientific unobserved phenomena like quarks, dark energy, singularity etc but has a hard time accepting the existence of unobservable phenomena that Islam posits. This is a mind that is completely comfortable accepting the existence of extraterrestrial beings but has a hard time accepting the metaphysical beings that form the basis of the Islamic worldview.

Undoubtedly, there are other worlds out there and there are deeper realities outside this world of cause and effect. The notion of cause and effect or causality is in itself a metaphysical assumption and not a scientific fact. Many people don't know that science rests on metaphysics and unobserved assumptions.

The extraordinary event of Isra and Mi'raj made the Muslim mind flexible to the ideas of warping and contraction of space and time, other dimensions of existence and other universes beside ours. Thus in the following centuries we see these being discussed academically within Islamic intellectual circles.
