Our minds are so used to mind chatter and multitasking that we find it a challenge to focus in Salaah. So, how do we stop the mind from wandering? How do we immerse ourselves and fully commit to Salaah and feel the glorious gift that is Salaah?

The answer: KHUSHOO.

Improve the quality of your Salaah by:

Go quiet, inside and out - Just as we prepare for interviews and presentations and picking out an outfit for special occasions, we must give MORE attention to detail when it comes to Salaah. Before you begin, quiet the mind. Cut off thoughts of people, places, things. As you perform ablution, think of it as cleansing yourself of the Dunya and its distractions. Prepare and present yourself as best you can.

Salaah is a gift - Reluctance to pray doesn't allow for concentration, so you pray with a “just get it done” attitude. Showing up wholeheartedly for a conversation with our Creator should be with devotion and respect for Him. The state we are in is what makes Salaah so special.

Love in the language - As with anything, love begins with understnding. Without understand it you will lose interest. For many, the gestures of Salah are a habit, but the meaning and appreciation of the Quran and Salaah are not. This is what disconnects us from feeling spirituality connected to our Creator. Make an effort to learn and understand what you are saying in order to stay focused.

Time really is everything - This Hadith speaks for itself -

Abu Qutaadah RA said: “The Prophet SAWS said: ‘The worst type of thief is the one who steals from his prayer.’ He said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how can a person steal from his prayer?’ He said, ‘By not doing Rukoo’ and Sujood properly.’
