Sometimes it love at fist sight, other times it’s the bonds of friendship that bring you together, but marriages are built on 3 important aspects - communication, compromise and commitment. Take a look at what these are are how you can apply it in your own marriage -

Communication - good communication is one of the strongest foundations in a marriage. Without it, you will find yourself running around in circles unable to solve problems and find a way forward. Healthy communication allows you work on all areas of your relationship whether it’s personal, financial or with regards tp raising kids. Speak kindly, calmly and never in a moment of anger. Umar-al-khattab (r.a) said "When your spouse is angry, you should be should be calm. When one is fire the other should be water."

Compromise - it's a two way street and requires effort on both sides. It is not always smiles and sweet talk. Often, couples find themselves disagreeing on certain things but a middle ground must be reached. Think of the bigger picture and then narrow it down to how big a compromise has to be made.

Commitment - when you promised to stand together in good times and in bad, that promise is not just poetry at the wedding ceremony. It runs eep in a marriage and must be honored. In these moments you come to understand that the marriage comes first and being mindful of the fact that there are difficult roads to take and it will bring about growth and change, which means strength at the end.

Reflect back on the fist days of your marriage to where you are now and notice the growth and change that took place.

About

Naseeha Tayob Ibrahim

I speak. I write. I coach.

I want to make the world a better place.

As an avid reader and writer, it’s no surprise that communications became my career and line of work. There is never one thing in particular that defines who I am, except the fact that I am passionate about everything I do. That made me the odd one out most of my life. It made realize how important it is to listen to my heart.
