How to rise after hitting rock bottom

When a person hits rock bottom, there’s very little that can tempt them into picking themselves up and continue their journey. Many times they’re waiting to get lucky with their career, a relationship or that their problems will sort themselves out. Personal experience and some metaphysics have taught me that it’s not about luck. It is about energy, our personal power and perception.

Some years ago I hit rock bottom, as do a lot of people, at least once or twice in life. I had lost sense of who I am. Everyday leading up to that day I lived the way others told me to, the way I was taught. I ignored myself, my dreams and desires and most regrettably, I didn't have a good relationship with my Creator - I prayed Salaah, but my heart was not present.

Rumi says what you seek, is seeking you. With all the pain in my heart and darkness in my life, I finally turned to Allah, this time, from my heart. With all it’s broken pieces, it cried out to Allah (swt) for just a little bit of light, healing and ease. There is one line from my hearts duaa that has stuck with me to this day - Oh Allah, create a way for me like You did for Musa (AS)when you split the ocean. Oh Allah, ease my pain and give me Sabr like you did for Ayoub (AS). Oh Allah, make my journey painless like you cooled the fire for Ibrahim (AS). Oh Allah, open my doors to whatever good you feel I need. Days went by in read Quran and reflect. Weeks went by in speaking my Creator in the most honest and sincere ways.

Allah says in the Quran “Allah will not change a people until they change what is in their hearts” [Al-Ra’d 13:11]

Fast forward a few years and I am back on my feet - Allah, The Almighty granted me a life of peace, happiness and contentment. I cannot say it’s a life without hurdles and hardship, but I am stronger with Allah (swt) on my side. I have a career that I absolutely love, one that allows me to move forward in the direction of those dreams and desires I once left behind. I have freed myself of (almost) all fears and have changed the way I think about myself, my life, and most importantly, my Creator. All of this because I changed my mind - I consider this a gift from Allah (swt).

In this article, I want to share with you the life changing knowledge and steps I took that gave me a whole new outlook on life.

Let’s start with Vibration.
Vibration is a combination of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual  energy levels is what makes up our ‘being’. Vibration is a way of describing your overall state of being. The metaphysical belief is that everything in the universe is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies. Even things that look solid are made up of vibrational energy fields at the quantum level. That means you too, are made up of energy.

An important aspect to understand is that like attracts like - As humans, we vibrate on at a very specific frequency. Our emotional state determines our vibrational frequencyThe law states - High vibrations attract high vibrations and low vibrations attract low vibrations. Positive thoughts, feelings and emotions let you vibrate at a higher frequency. Negative thoughts, feelings and emotions let you vibrate at a higher frequency. When things are going well in life, some people may call it luck when in fact, it’s a matter of perspective and choice.

So how do we raise our vibration? I know it sounds complex but, it’s a lot of fun.

    * Become conscious of your thoughts.
Every thought you think has an impact on you. Whatever you focus on, you attract more off. Whatever you focus on, expands. When you talk about your blessings, you will always feel good and blessed. When you talk about what you don’t have, what's missing, you will always feel unsatisfied. When you change those thoughts for the positive, you get closer to changing your whole life. Think and talk about how blessed you are, how fortunate you are and how much there is to be grateful for. In the face of adversity though, this is easier said then done, right? But the next time a negative thought shows up in your head, take the time to acknowledge it, thank it for showing up, and then dismiss it and turn it around for the positive.

    * Attitude of Appreciation
Beauty is all around us, yet so often we turn a blind eye. Stop for a second and start to appreciate the smaller things in life. Appreciate everything and everyone. Thank Allah (swt) for each and everything you have and don’t have. There is khair in what we have and don’t have.

    * Eat well

Food should heal you, not hurt you. Consuming foods covered in chemicals and pesticides, or ordering takeouts and eating unhealthy amounts of sugar will leave you vibrating lower. Conversely, consuming good quality healthier options, as nature intended, you will feel the high vibrations throughout your body. Most importantly, be mindful of how eating certain foods make your body feel and follow the ettiequte of eating as our Prophet Muhammad (saw) did.

    * Stay hydrated
Just as we want to get rid of the toxic thoughts and and feelings, we also have to flush out toxins from the body. Always ensure you drink plenty of water (filtered is best) to assist with this.  Toxicity has a marked impact on our vibration so we must do what we can to reduce it's impact within us and around us.

    * Acts of Kindness

Abundance is a high vibration. Open your hands and hearts. There is enough to go around. Shift your thinking from “I don’t have enough" to “Alhamdullilah, I have more than enough to give to others.”  Kindness puts you at a high vibration. There are countless stories from our precious Islamic History that prove how merciful our Creator is. When Allah (swt) is so kind and merciful to us, then how can be ay different to others?

    * Get Active
A change in vibration requires movement. Taking action. The more you move the better your vibrations move. So Get Active! It has immediate effects on your brain. A single workout that you do will immediately increase levels of neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline. It can improve your ability to shift and focus attention. And it releases happy hormones, a natural high, if you will. Knock yourself out.

About

Naseeha Tayob Ibrahim

I speak. I write. I coach.

I want to make the world a better place.

As an avid reader and writer, it’s no surprise that communications became my career and line of work. There is never one thing in particular that defines who I am, except the fact that I am passionate about everything I do. That made me the odd one out most of my life. It made realize how important it is to listen to my heart.
